*MAJOR PARTIES ACCEPT WAHID SCANDAL REPORT: 01-02-2001 The main factions in
Indonesia?s parliament have accepted the findings of a commission which
found that President Abdrurrahaman Wahid may have been implicated in two
financial scandals. The Indonesian Democratic party lead by vice-president
Megawati Sukarnoputri and the Golkar party both accept the report into the
so-called Buloggate and Bruenigate scandals. The investigating commission
found that Wahid could be suspected of playing a role in the diversion of
millions of dollars in funds from the state logistics agency Bulog and that
he failed to account for a gift from the Sultan of Brunei.

*UN EXTENDS TIMOR MANDATE: 01-02-2001 The UN Security Council has extended
the organisation`s administration of East Timor for another year, while
taking into account that the former Indonesian territory might become
independent before then. The resolution, supported by all 15 Security
Council members, also calls on the international community to provide
technical and financial assistance for an East Timor defence force.
