sectarianism?

a couple of years ago, I read a truly terrible book called REQUIEM FOR KARL
MARX. it was published by Harvard University Press. I cannot remember the
author. someone who is regarded as a good intellectual historian of ideas.

one of his main points was that Marx was to blame for the history of
sectarianism because of the way he dealt with people he disagreed with. the
author did not mention the case of Victoria Woodhull as I remember. at the
time, I thought that this was a bullshit argument. I mean the argument seems
to suggest that Marx's style of communication had some kind of power to
determine future events. the author also criticized Marx for not loving his
mother. this shows the level of subtlety.
