I think that this debate we have been having on the Malvinas is very useful:
the parallels between the war over the Malvinas and the present war are, sop
far, very strong; not least because of the way that both wars illustrate the
consistency of the arguments raised by those on the left who oppose opposing
imperialism's wars. With this in mind, therefore I thought it would be
useful to post the following, which is the full text of a Militant pamphlet
from the time. The pamphlet in fact consists of a single article by Ted
Grant entitled 'Falklands Crisis [sic]: A Socialist Answer', and reflects
absolutely what Militant's line was at the time. Comrades will see that the
politics outlined in the pamphlet are absolutely and utterly bankrupt from
the point of view of socialist politics (I get the feeling that Xxxx Xxxxxx
rather pretties their position); the text is worth reading from this point
of view alone, in that it is an object lesson in 'internationalist' social
chauvinism. I'll refrain from commenting any more on this at the moment,
save to point out that the successor organisations to Militant today-the
Socialist Party of England and Wales (unfortunately acronysable to SPEW) and
the Scottish ISM  have evolved favourably since 1982, very much so in the
case of the latter (although Grant's current organisation, Socialist Appeal,
appears to have limited itself to phrasemongering so far).
