Louis I have to disagree with you some on the Nation's drift with the
Democratic Party, I think they are more in line with the far right.
This past spring I was driving through central Florida and a local
university station carried Radio Nation and I thought oh great, since we do
not hear it out here in New Mexico. Well, the report was a Marc Cooper
discussion with Nation editor Katrina vanden Heuvel about foreign policy as
seen around her recent trip to Russia. I could not tell any difference from
in her analysis of had happened to Russia with the looting by neo-liberals
and the future of events to unfold there than what I am hearing from
Rumsfeld and Powell. They are interchangeable, but so are the R's and D's
too.
The Nation's real position I suspect is much further right but they need a
base among liberal subscribers. But like you say, I think in the next few
years we will see all this in very sharp contrast.
It is like with Palestine. American progressives, radicals, whoever, need
to really be trying to stop the slaughter in Palestine because this is the
place the Pentagon is testing out all the smart weapons technology of laser
like, space based pointed surgical elimination of foes, which is the
strategy behind the Rumsfeld reorganization of the Pentagon. If we don't
stop them there we will be hit with the same tactics later ourselves.
