I have read the New Republic article.  According to Berman a major
turning point in the political development of these popeoplespecially
Cohen-Bendit, Glucksmann, Fischer etc.  was their horror over the
PLO's terrorism in the 1970s (i.e. the killing of the Israeli athletes
in Munich in 1972), which it is said help lead to their disenchantment
with revolutionary politics.  One might then think that these folk
would be equally horrified by Israeli state terrorism.  Perhaps, they
have indeed expressed such horror, somehow though, this seems to have
escaped my notice.  And in any case seems to have had little effect on
their more recent political views.
