Re: Is Linux un-American?

Nothing amuses me quite as much as Microsoft's all-out
attack on Linux and Open Source in general. Allchin's
comments were so bizarre that even Microsoft shops
thought they were hilarious; MS had to back off. (I
don't remember the exact wording, but MS said in
effect "we agree with what he said, but the way he
said it was wrong.")

The odd thing is, Open Source shows how the age-old
anti-communist argument "you need a capitalist to
organize production" just ain't so. The way Linux was
first created says it all; Linus Torvalds made a post
on Usenet about a new OS he was building, and asked
for help. And hundreds of coders, interested in the
project, collaborated online to produce a high-quality
operating system, Linux. And yea, there was much
rejoicing, for the new Open Source movement was
borneth.

Maybe that's why Microsoft is worried.

And now, for something completely different.
