Re: Skepticism

Regarding the political makeup of the Skeptics'
movement:

I've really seen the whole gamut. There are hard-core
libertarian types, but Randroids tend not to last long
as they are regarded as cultists by most in the
movement.

The Chairman of CSICOP, Paul Kurtz, is also the head
of two large Secular Humanist (capital "s," capital
"h") organizations whose names escape me at the
moment. There is a LOT of crossover, and I'd wager
that most of the nationally and internationally known
skeptics are of this bent. Personally, I'd regard
Secular Humanists as left of "liberal" - closer to
social democrats, really.

But I like what Dave said, regarding the Militant's
(correct) characterization of Skeptics as
materialists.

I was just puzzled at the lack of Marxists in the
Skeptics organizations and vice-versa.

And now, for something completely different.
