OK, I see your point in that regard - certainly the
Aswan dam and the experiences of the Yanomamo come to
mind.

But consider the time in which Trotsky wrote. Thinking
him (or his essay) "wacky" for advocating what was
then considered a clean, environmentally friendly
system of electricity production, seems a tad harsh.
