Wul lie Thinking
People can be funny, can't they.
Wul lie posts a load of sarcastic and flippant remarks about somethintg I
wrote that Scott had posted on another list. Among these is the statement
'Third World radical nationalism - I won't even go there.'
I reply that it is ignorant and arrogant to dismiss the struggles of people
all over the world for national liberation, and this same individual gets
on his high horse and accuses me of "assassination" and "slamming". Talk
about the pot. . .
Perhaps if Wul lie had adopted a rather different tone in the first place,
and also not have been so haughtily dismissive of the struggles of the
majority of the world's people, he would have got a different kind of
response from me.
As for his claim that the Scottish are an oppressed nation, give me a
break! The Scottish have never been oppressed as a nation. Scotland is an
integral part of British imperialism which has robbed and oppressed peoples
all over the world. The Scots have always been in the front lines of
British imperialism. And there was nothing done to people in Scotland that
wasn't also done to people in England.
Scottish nationalism is a con because Scotland isn't oppressed as a nation.
Plenty of other countries are, however.
I also find my friend Scott's outrage at some of my loose comments about NZ
Activism rather odd. Scott never lets anything hold him back in
characterisations of anyone or any political positions - indeed, he is
rather famous for letting fly at the drop of a regularly, he gets upset.
Scott, I have no desire to portray all the people on NZ Activism - least of
all Jim Gladwin, Mark Eden or the Christchruch class-struggle anarchists -
in the terms you suggest. As I recall I wasn't even specifically referring
to that list; I made a sweeping comment about a load of lists. But I
certainly never claimed that *every one* on these lists, let alone on any
specific lists, were middle class brats throwing tantrums. But I don't
think you'd deny there is a load of rubbish on a load of lists.
