It seems to me that an activist boycott of the political process is a reasonable
strategy, but that is not the same as simply not voting. It is because the left
stopped voting that the role of swing vote is denied them. There were elections
in which socialist or communist candidates ran and received sizable votes. By
not voting, we allow the Democrats to drift toward centrist positions without
penalty. Politics is about power and every individual vote is a unit of power.
We cannot afford to squander any little bit of power away. Revolutionary
struggle is a long, endless and broad range effort. By not voting, we don't
gain anything, unless there is an active movemment of not voting as a protest.
I don't claim to have the correct view, but it seems to me to be deuctively
reasonable to make a statement with one's vote.
