ISRAELI ARMY ATTACKS KHAN YUNIS REFUGEE CAMP,
PALESTINIAN ASSASSINATED IN HEBRON

From: "Lawsociety" <law@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

DAY 75
ISRAELI ARMY ATTACKS KHAN YUNIS REFUGEE CAMP
PALESTINIAN ASSASSINATED IN HEBRON
DECEMBER 13, 2000

Today, the Israeli army attacked Khan Yunis refugee camp in the Gaza Strip.
At 1:45 a.m., Israeli bulldozers, accompanied by a large military force,
entered the refugee camp and partly demolished ten houses located at a
distance of 150 meters from an Israeli military outpost. When the residents
protested against the destruction of their homes, the Israeli army used
tanks and machine guns to quell resistance. Subsequently, the Palestinian
National Security forces intervened and four officers were killed, namely
Mahdi Akila (27), Mohammad Abu Al Ala (25), Ahmad Imtair (30), and Jabir Al
Sabi?a (25).

As a result of the Israeli shelling, which continued throughout the night
until 9 a.m., 43 Palestinians from Khan Yunis refugee camp were injured.
Among those injured, seven are said to be in critical condition, for example
Yassir al Najar (20) and Ihab Abu Samra (30), who were both hit in the head;
Ibrahim Al Bardaweel (20) who was shot in the chest and Usama Abu Khrais
(30) who was injured by shrapnel in different parts of the body.

In Hebron, the Israeli army killed Abas al Awiwi (26) by two bullets shot in
the abdomen and one in the chest. According to medical reports, Awiwi was
shot at close range. The Israeli claim that Awiwi was carrying a pistol does
not conform to the information collected by LAW. At the time of the attack,
Awiwi was unarmed and standing in front of his shoe store at a distance of
250 m from the Israeli checkpoint located between H 1 and H 2. The Israeli
military bases under Al-Rahmi Mountain and under the settlement Ramat Yeshai
are located at a distance of 500 m and 700m, respectively.

Since September 29, Israeli forces and settlers have killed 282
Palestinians.
