Re: Moderator's note

Greetings Comrades,
Gary wrote some points I agree with. I tend these days to agree mostly
with Lou, and like Gary I want to see the Marxism list grow. I have in the
past liked seeing some crossing posting occasionally for interesting
postings about some subject that needs to be discussed.

I think it true that

Gary,
But all fantasies apart in this conjuncture the last thing we need is for
quarrels from other lists being dragged onto this one. As someone who is
not on Pen-L or LBO let me assure those who are multiply subscribed that it
is a genuine pain to see battles from other lists fought out here. I do not
wage battles from Queer Left or the Bhaskar List on to this and I do not
see why others should not

Doyle
I think the key point above is about quarrels, not so much that some cross
postings can be useful at times. And I think Lou was trying to make that
point about what is acceptable cross posting material in his original note
to the list. I would also like to see content be important in how we write
here, rather than emotional intensity. The kind of emotion I like to see
here is comradeship, solidarity, serious discussions, and honest anger about
what is specific to our discussions.

I also think like Lou, if Doug is going to subscribe to make a few comments
that is not an appropriate way to intervene. That is someone like Doug has
something to say to us as a list, they ought to approach this in a
respectful way. That can be worked out. Otherwise I think that behavior
does not contribute to the depth we want here. And this is not just about
Doug Henwood, but anyone who engages this list this way.

I want to restate this a little bit, we are doing work here building up the
movement in our way. We want that building process be as sound as it can
be. We want our relationships with one another to reflect how much we want
to build this movement as much as the wide ranging subjects that we need to
cover in this political space.
thanks,
Doyle Saylor
