I agree of course Carroll.

And to some extent pessimism is a self-indulgence that go very wrong. I
often think in this context of the Yeats' poem about Lady Gregory where he
quotes her as saying that she "never complained of the people." In the
poem he is abashed at her words. It is worth bearing these sentiments and
your warnings in mind when we come to castigate.
