Thank you for this, MacD. I wonder if voting were not compulsory in
Australia how many would vote. My guess is about 35%, which is the
American level. It always strikes me as strange that Australian political
operatives are sent to the US to learn the latest election techniques -
e.g. direct mail, concentration on marginal seats, demonisation of
opponents, advertising etc. The techniques get more and more sophisticated
as the system of democracy degenerates.
