By the way, Louis, the leaders of the revolution, besides being avid land
speculators, were willing to go to great lengths to further their Western land
holdings. He mentioned Franklin trying to get possession of the Ohio Valley.
He also was working with the British, during his time at the American Embassy
in France, in angling for the same land in case the British crushed the
revolution in the colonies. The British also paid him handsomely for his
information.
