Dear Louis,

Just received word of Jim's death via your H-World post.  I hosted Jim in
Boston and his presence was always the highlight of any academic conference
where I found him in attendance.  One of the best people I ever met.

Looking forward to any other information you might gather.  I will ask
Gunder Frank, who serves on my diss committee, to consider reviewing Jim's
last book in honor of Jim....
