Huh? Neither, although a lot closer to liberal... No "Red" would be
able to skip the contradiction between the poverty he bemoans and his
own need to commit suicide.
He's speaking about a market he can't tap. He is less in production as
he is in commodity distribution, unlike, say Phil Knight, who can't
escape the need for both. Gates is the richest not because he rules an
industry but because he *created* one (not in the Marxist sense...but)
, and then expanded it to every reach of the First World. For
precisely the reason he states that speed of growth is over, and now
his empire, like Imperialism itself, will either find new markets or
go into slow but eventually terminal decline. He would likely finish
the lecture by saying that Microsoft needs to continue developing new
software packages every day, etc. or they will have no new sales to
make. The option of finding new people to hook on the machines are
becoming very slim. That's about it.
