Hi everybody! It is another sad day in this place
(N.Y.) N.Y.! Just went by the catholic school in 143st
west and Amsterdam. The democrats are there in force
in front of the school building leaf letting for gore
and cia. Beside them a a blue diamond warning against
electioniring...We go in the the machine of the
democrats is buzzing...I get out and a man asked me if
I did the right thing. I ask: "What do you mean?" and
he reply: "Vote democrat" I say: "I will not vote for
democrat or republican as long as there is a prison
industrial complex." He answered: "What a pity!!" You
will never be able to vote again in your life. I said:
Of course I will. I just voted Green! That is a waste
of vote. He replies. I add:"It is not because we have
to have some hope that our brothers and sisters in
prison will have a chance to be given their freedom.
Have you ever heard of Mumia Abu-Jamal? He said:" No "
I spoke aboout Move and Mumia and the prison labor
industry and he said:" How come I never heard this
before?" I said:"Because the main stream media is part
of the collusion to keep the jails growing and the
people uninformed. And our misleaders, are in a power
trip." Do you want to learn more and he said: I have
learned enough already. This is too much for one day.
I have to go to work."And he walked away.
Why am I sharing this experience? To make clear to all
of us that there is an enormous constituency here in
Harlem that is total unaware of matters which affects
us all. People are totally left out of the history of
our communities and we are embracing universities and
colleges and the working class get its knowledge of
our history from TV. We need to change our strategies
to be more inclusive... I am willing to help. RR
