Subject: Hello...

Hi Louis, It's Mac here. I assume you received my first third-party note. If it
was
not sent out, I am hoping you can do me the favour of sending a note to my L-I
co-moderators that I will be off the machine (it's STILL in the damn shop) for a
couple of days further at least. My continuing apoligies for not being able to
do my
end of the work.

Also, I recently saw an article in the Toronto paper the Globe and Mail called
"Budding democracy reaches for a hand up", which, while typically gross in
languauge,
points out that one of the "problems" is that the SPS/JUL has kept food
"dangerously"
cheap (denying market prices) and using forms of rationing. One other "problem"
is
that factories are not owned by the state, but rather something akin to "social
property" which is interpreted as belonging to the community, or "no one in
particular" (sounds a tad Titoist to me). All the 50% of the population
unemployed
still receive 80% of their previous wages, almost precisely the kinds of
measures the
Cuban government instituted for "redundant" workers in the Special Period. This
article is about a week old, and if you can't find it by the time I return,
I'll send
it along transcribed.

Hope life is well on both lists. My apologies for using you as the go-between,
I can
only remember your address without my address book.

Mac.
