You can still recall the role of "vanguard party" in Lenin's own terms! or even
Gramci's counter-hegemonic block...This is not top-down politics, this is
Marxism as revolutionarty _praxis_

In theory, it's not supposed to be top-down, but, in practice, it has been, more
often than not. Gramsci's ideas of organic intellectuals would have been helpful
if correctly applied in practice, for it would have meant respecting the
articulate members of prostitutes as organic intellectuals as well.
