Absolutely, and to count your victory in terms of the number of teeth that
have been knocked out is worse than perverse. It is silly. I often think
that the seminal influence here is Attenborough's film Ghandi. Especially
the scene where all the men lined up to have their heads cracked.
It is the determination of the Catholic Anarchists to define themselves
against what they suspect is the "authoritarian left" that irritates
me. Thus they sing rather than chant. They want to pray but don't quite
have the nerve to take out the rosary beads. So they chant 'om'. If we
were to demand that everyone sing and chant 'om', then no doubt they would
insist on the Hail Mary.
Still Ciaron continues his own way, and that I admire. However like most
Anarchists he is thoroughly authoritarian. One of the more amusing
manifestations of the remorseless dialectic.
