My first comment was entirely a joke, and I never worry about obscene
gestures as long as they're discreet.

Yes, have been all this time. Perhaps I should conclude my earlier potted
history in a few lines:
In the 1985 split we set up a group called Socialist Action. In the late
eighties the I.S. engaged in a major public self-criticism of its earlier
sectarianism (which Gary mentioned). We then re-united the two groups. Then
of course -- this being the left -- there was another split, leading to the
formation of Socialist Alternative. Interestingly, the second split was
across totally differently fault lines. I remain on personally friendly
terms with both sides, which only shows what wimp liberal I've become!
