I hear and obey Lou and you are absolutely correct. I will leave the last
word with others - GRRHH!!
I was much heartened by a conversation with two of my students this
morning. They had returned from Melbourne and were high on the experience
of mass protest. They had just been through a very good time though the
protesters were brutally assaulted. However the general feeling was that
of a deep satisfaction that Australia had played its part in the world wide
anti-capitalist struggle and that the rich and the powerful had been made
to rethink.
They also learned the lesson of the nature and role of the Australian
police. The Victorian cops are a particularly nasty outfit. Within
recent years the same police force has distinguished itself by the number
of mentally ill people it has assassinated. I kid you not.
One of the students also brought up the fact that he had just finished
reading Othello and he loved it but not as much as Hamlet it seems. He is
not a literature student. Just someone who is trying to resist the general
dumbing down of the academy. Sorry I meant to say the drive to make the
academy relevant to the real world.
regards
Gary
