I am incubating a piece about Australia but thought I would wait until
after the World Forum to see what happens. I have of course great hopes for
the Melbourne protests. I have been very impressed with the numbers of
young people heading down.

The violence question is really a side issue but as always it is getting
foregrounded. at this time it is absolutely stupid IMHO to talk of being
violent or the necessity for violent protest. Of course that does not mean
that I would condemn people who get into a confrontation with the
police. I just think violence should be avoided if at all possible.
