Troubled Marriage

The July 28, 2000 Macomb (County Michigan) Daily has a main front page article
entitled "Troubled Marriage: DaimlerChrysler fails to live up to its ballyhooed
potential". Macomb County is home of Chrysler since it moved out of Highland 
Park,  a
city completely surrounded by Detroit. An island city within the city limits of
Detroit.

The article has no author but " The Wall Street Journal". But putting 
Daimler-Chrysler
into the Wall Street Journal's webpage does not turn up the article in that 
paper over
the last two days.

The article begins, "Two years ago, Juergen Schrempp stood triumphantly on a 
London
stage and pledged that the newly created Daimler-Chrysler would  have the size, 
the
profitability and the reach to take on everyone." The combination would be the 
most
profitable automotive company in the world.

"It hasn't worked out that way.

"Daimler-Chrysler shares are trading at half the height they reached following 
the
company's creation in November 1998. The company's market capitalization has 
plummeted
to about $53 billion, less than the $ 57 billion Daimler-Benz AG alone was 
worth just
before its acquisition of Chrysler Corp. was announced."
