Re: Galvano Della Volpe

Della Volpe analyzed Marx's
methodology as one which followed the pattern of Concrete-
Abstract-Concrete (C-A-C), which is the pattern or circle of
scientific materialist dialectics (as opposed to Hegelian
dialectics which follows the circle of Abstract-Concrete-
Abstract).

CB: Interesting summary of Della Volpe. I thought Marx explicitly used this
terminology at one point in describing his own method , and I thought he said he
proceeded from the abstract to the concrete. For example, Vol. I of Capital is
abstract relative to Vol.'s II and III. In it, production proper is abstracted
from
production as a whole. Vol. III is relatively more concrete and holistic.
However,
Della Volpe could say that before he wrote Capital , Marx investigated lot of
data
first, which in some sense would be more concrete.
