This attempt to confuse the issue was brought up frequently during
the debate on East Timor -- and those opposing the Australian invasion
of East Timor consistently attacked the obscurantist confusion between
(1) insisting that the state enforce its own laws in its own territory and
(2) going over to the ruling class by tailing that class's foreign adventurism.
The specific contrast (not comparison) to the Australian invasion of
East Timor was the use of u.s. troops to enforce school integration in
the south.
