Re: Howard Sherman on dialectics
>>> James Farmelant <farmelantj@xxxxxxxx> 04/26/00 09:27PM >>>
The political economist Howard Sherman in his 1995 book *Reinventing
Marxism* aims to
present a conception of Marxism that can serve as a viable alternative to
what he views as
the now obsolete Soviet version of Marxism. Sherman's version of Marxism
can be seen
as drawing upon certain currents of Western Marxism. Sherman makes clear
his rejection
of Soviet conceptions of dialectics. Like the Western Marxists (i.e.
Gramsci, Lukacs,
the Frankfurters etc.) Sherman rejects the notion of a dialectics of
nature. To some
extent Sherman draws also from some of the arguments of the Analytical
Marxists
(against what Sherman labels as Soviet Marxism)
