There is an Iranian Left still there. So perhaps in spite of repression
there is hope

A coalition of groups and organsiations of the Iranian Left is trying to
organise a demonstration in Tehran on May the 1st 2000.
This will probably be an illegal demonstartion, we are trying to gather
suport
before the 27th of April so that radio staions, internet sites can show a
level
of International support to Iranain workers who will risk a lot by
partcipating
in demonstrations/protests.
If you would like to support the campaign as an individual, as a trade
unionist
, as an activist please send me a reply.

Statement by the Campaign to support independent workers May Day
celebrations   in Iran

May Day International Workers day is approaching. On this day, throughout
the world, workers throughout the world will demonstrate in close ranks,
as
an independent group , calling for an end to exploitation, raising their
voice
with the International, calling for unity and solidarity amongst workers ,
in demonstrations and gatherings. In this way they will show their
strength
and unity to the exploiters.

In Iran, under the rule of the Islamic regime, the working class is not
only
deprived of its independent organisations, but it is not allowed to
organise
its own celebrations on this day.  Yet despite the cruelty and barbarism
of
this regime and its officials in the last two decades, Iranian workers
have
not relented in their efforts to organise their own independent
celebrations
on this day. Although this has lead to death and much suffering.

Over the last few years , despite increased pressure by all factions of
the
Islamic Republic regime, workers have continued their struggles in the
economic, political and social spheres and it is possible to predict a
major
upsurge in the struggles of the working class. As a result of this,
independent celebrations , expression of workers demands, raising the
voice
of the working class against anti worker legislation, especially the
regulations for exempting workshops of 5 employee or less from the Labour
legislation , is predicted for this May Day.

Therefore, we, a number of revolutionary organisations of the Left , with
a
realisation of this situation and the need to strengthen workers
struggles,
are organising a joint campaign abroad to support independent May Day
celebrations in Iran, to reflect these struggles and to obtain
International
Support for these demands and struggles.
The demand for independent workers organisation, the right to strike, an
end
to individual and mass job losses from factories and workshops , equal
rights for foreign workers ( Afghani, Iraqi, Bangladeshi workers in Iran )
with Iranian workers in all aspects of workers life, forbidding employment
of children, payment of unpaid wages, condemnation of the anti labour
policies of
the government, the parliament and other state organisations such as
Khaneh
Kargar , Islamic councils in the workplace are the minimum demands of the
Iranian working class and we emphasise our defence of these demands on the
first of May 2000.


In order to achieve the aims of the Campaign , we call on all the
supporters
of the working class , on all revolutionary, progressive forces to join
this
Campaign and support the struggles and demands of the Iranian working
class
especially the right to organise independent workers celebrations in Iran.
