After all this time I'm still disappointed when people don't bother to read
what I write but just shoot from the lip. If Nation behaves like mainstream
media, then it is so. Probably I'm coloured by reading British broadsheet
newspapers which aren't quite so crassly philistine as American papers,
actually have foreign news desks, bureaux abroad and the like. I haven't
been subjected to the mindless 24x7 droning of the American press so am not
so shocked by the idea that Nation (tame, pink, liberal, wet kind of rag
that it is) is just another Main Street media product. But whatever, the
appalling fact that Nation gave its imprimatur to the Putin regime remains;
does that count for nothing? 8 million people have died in Russian because
GDP and living standards fell by half in the past decade, mostly due to
American-sponsored criminality. Does it not bother you that vanden Heuvel
now blesses that result?
