It's unwise to say "stupid" - a case in point

In a message dated 03/10/2000 6:29:39 PM Eastern Standard Time, Mr.
Death-to-capitalism@xxxxxxxxx writes:

<< When she was in primary school, the
teacher used to address the class every Monday
morning, asking: "Who went to church this weekend?"
Those who admitted to attending church would have
their knuckles slapped with a ruler. Now, we can
argue back and forth over whether this was the right
policy for the Tito government to pursue. Personally,
the idea of slapping little kids makes me queasy, but
it's kind of understandable that the government would
take harsh measures to extirpate the influence of
clergy who had been supportive of fascism. But no
matter what you think about it, to say that the
government did nothing to fight the influence of the
Church would be utterly stupid. >>

My comment: Never say "stupid" lest pride cometh before a fall.

Rapping knuckles does not constitute a campaign against the RACIST IDEAS
which had ALREADY BEEN taught by the Catholic church. ALready been, i.e.
past tense, I.e., prior to rapping of knuckles. Was rapping retroacative?

These ideas became totalitarian state policy during the period of
Clerico-Fascist rule in the Independent State of Croatia during World War II.
This indoctrination was universal.

Whoever said the Tito government was not tough on RELIGION as an organized
force? And what does that have to do with defeating racist ideas ALREADY
taught to Croatians throughout the century by the most rabidly racist branch
of the Catholic Church, one that was openly allied with Mussolini during the
30s, one which was in control of the Ustashe movement which was called by
Hitler "Our Nazi's."

It is remarkable that Mr. Lnancy cannot distinguish between organizational
measures (leaving aside the value of rapping knuckles) and defeating the
NONreligious ideas of racism the church HAD ALREADY pumped into people's
heads.

As I said, Tito's method of "handling" this problem was : 1) cement over the
evidence and 2) call for universal brotherhood. I repeat: brotherhood in the
absence of justice means the sore will fester.
