(1) Animals do indeed think. Ask any pet-owner.
(2) We're animals, too.
(3) We ought to be better than our natural and social prehistory.
(4) Hubble has discovered a bunch of planets orbiting around suns, so the
chance that other species are out there in the universe is pretty high.
