Much of Ernest Mandel's Marxist economic theory deals with this, especially
"Late Capitalism" which unfortunately--like some of his other classics--is
out of print. Harry Braverman's "Labor and Monopoly Capitalism" fortunately
is in print and is chiefly concerned with the proletarianization of the
professions.
