Consumerism & John Pilger

I am struck by the link between Lou's message:

and mine:

Both show how important it is not to be misled by the "apparent" actions of
people into writing them off as mere "conservative fodder". Working-class
people are not so daft as the powers-that-be imagine they are - but their
deep-seated ideas only show when they are impelled to act by developing
conditions..... [The "whatever I do won't make any difference" syndrome.]

There is also a great link with another message from Lou:

which emphasises the current tendency for "intellectuals" to go off at a
tangent, with unreal 'environmentalist' programs without any conception of
how "parochial" (in the sense of merely concerned with the problems in the
imperial heartland) and non-dialectical their attitudes are.

So many threads going on this list - but they are all so intimately
connected!!
