Xanana Gusmao in Indonesia
I saw an interesting report on Xanana Gusmao's visit to Indonesia on TV
last night. Apparently he got an agreement from Wahid to release the
remaining (some of the remaining??) East Timorese political prisoners in
Indonesian jails. Anyway, this news report (on SBS) showed him visiting
his old home, Cipinang Prison, and supposedly talking to the East Timorese
prisoners.
Except he wasn't. The Timorese were in the back of the shot, sure, but the
people in the foreground were from the PRD. I saw Budiman Sujatmiko, and,
umm, the guy whose name I can never remember (Petrus?) whose jail term was
only a year shorter than Budiman's.
It seems that Gusmao hasn't forgotten his old allies. That's a good sign.
