Re: Final rejoinder: Brenner.

As to Brenner, he seems to me to have a notion of capitalism as centered
on *forms of production*, and not on *forms of exchange*- the same error
made, in different terms, by Cardoso, that eqautes developed capitalism
with industrialization. Intersting to note that Cardoso and his cronies
in the government were all theorists of note because of their forming,
during the 50s, a reading circle for "Capital" (which they read,
naturally, in Spanish, since Capital was not trans. to Portuguese until
1968; something that explains a lot about the weakness of Marxism
thinking in Brazil, and the elitist character of Braz. left politics).
They - and Brenner - seem to have not noticed the very first phrase of
Capital: Social Wealth where capitalism dominates takes the generalized
form of the *Commodity*, irrespective of technology or forms of
production.

((((((((((((((((((

Charles: Actually , the first sentence of _Capital_ is the wealth of those
nations in
which the capitalist MODE OF PRODUCTION prevails presents itself as an immense
accumulation of commodities. So, it is a "form of production" not a form of
exchange.

It is fundamental to Marx's argument that value is produced in production not in
exchange or circulation.
