CNN on Leonard Peltier and the history of the Millenium with a non-European focus

Tomorrow (Sunday) night I'm told by people working on the show that CNN
(U.S.) will be doing a major report as part of its CNN & Time "magazine"
show on Leonard Peltier, an American Indian activist framed up on murder
charges for the deaths of two FBI agents who got themselves killed on the
Pine Ridge Indian Reservation almost a quarter of a century ago. I have no
idea what CNN's take on it will be; but it should be interesting
nonetheless. Pine Ridge is a reservation of the Lakota people; it is there
that the last great massacre of Plains Indians took place at Wounded Knee in
1891, as well as the celebrated 1973 occupation by the American Indian
Movement which held off the FBI and U.S. Army for about three months.
Following that occupation there was a reign of terror on the reservation,
where about 60 people were found murdered or died under suspicious
circumstances in two years. This is what led to the "incident at Oglala"
where the two FBI agents got themselves killed.

Also (God! I'm sounding like a commercial!) tomorrow night is the debut
of the "millennium" series, on CNN in the U.S. I've had the opportunity to
view a few of the episodes, and I think it is well worth watching, and is
surprisingly watchable to boot. Basically each "century" (show) tells the
story of about a half dozen accomplishments of non-European peoples. In a
way, this is as PC as it gets, a brainchild of Ted ("I'm a socialist, too")
Turner but a very good supplement to what little history we did learn at
school.

The CNN & Time shows also airs, I believe, on CNN International (i.e.,
outside the U.S.). I do not know if CNN International is also carrying the
millennium series, as right now, the feed to the Americas is broadcasting
the 24-part "Cold War" series in the documentary "slot." (BTW, both Cold War
and Millennium were produced for CNN by Jeremy Isaacs, the acclaimed British
documentary producer who created the monumental "World at War" series on
WWII for ---I think-- the BBC in the 1970s.

Those who either miss the shows or want further info can root around in
CNN's web site for the material, but do it quick, as transcripts of current
programming can disappear as quickly as in a week or two.
