Liberal bourgeois rule was Re: New Age for Aussie Imperialism.

Thank you. You're too kind.

The only element of my post which was in any sense "new" was the suggestion
that liberal 'democratic' politics could be linked to liberal (neo-liberal)
economic policies. A counter-example would be that well-known Thatcherite
gorilla, Pinochet.

Dealing with liberal bourgeois rule, unfortunately seems to be less well
understood by the left than dealing with its conservative forms. This is
*particularly* true in the core imperialist states.

There is one aspect of the peripheral states that could make this situation
easier - the liberal bourgeois governments lack the same capacity to bribe
and coopt sections of the working class that the imperialist ruling classes
possess. This should make their rule weaker.

And of course there will be conflicts with the state - how do you defect
Pinochet style coups? If the left is successful in the current
environment, this is what they will face.
