cockroaches: their function
- Subject: cockroaches: their function

The Q&A feature of today's New York Times science section has a question
about what purpose cockroaches serve. The answer: scavenging of human
waste. Cockroaches have very little function in (non-human) nature. So,
this makes them sound more like a parasitical class than a productive one.
Since Marx noted frequently that both rentiers and paupers lived off the
crumbs of productive society, those who find inspiration in the roach
should examine their class alliances more closely.
