URGENT APPEAL

At 1 pm a large police force surrounded the central office of the Kurtulus in
Istanbul, a weekly publication. The police, armed with automatic weapons
wanted
to enter the builing but the people from the Kurtulus barricaded the door.
Thereupon the police threatened to enter the building with force. Inside the
office the people from the Kurtulus are on solidarity hunger strike with the
political prisoners. The Kurtulus has always been a thorn in the eye of the
autorities because of their critical news coverage. This attack must be seen
within the context of the massive repression against the solidarity-actions
with
the hungerstrikers.

Please intervene to prevent a bloodshed.

The list below consists of e-mail addresses of  the Turkish -
state-controlled-
 media. We call upon everybody to send an urgent message to these e-mail
 addresses in which you call on the Turkish press to show solidarity with the

colleagues of the Kurtulus.
