Re: a defense that is worse than the deed

As I am going on vacation in about 45 minutes and unsubbing for two weeks,
I shall make this final word on "sexism" mercifully brief.     I will not
respond to each of Zeynep's charges, except to say that I consider many of
them (e.g. "you insulted every male member of the list who responded to any
appeal from any woman any time") simply too foolish to waste powder and shot
on.

Nor is radio station WBAI--and what occurs there on or off the air--the
immediate issue.    I imagine it is a fairly typical institution of the
white American left--a gathering of amicable,  well educated hypocrites who
occasionally issue pronouncements on this or that issue which absolutely no
one listens to or takes seriously.

Fine.   WBAI is not,  or was not,  the issue.    The actions of certain
individuals on the Marxism List,  and how those actions squared with the
professed motives of their authors,  were.    I tried to address this from
the larger vantage point of sexist ideas and practices, and to relate it to
the larger issues of the hypocrisy of the flabby,  fashionable American
left.

Some people,  predictably,  did not like the results.

Have a safe and productive two weeks.
