Melman traces the decline of U.S. industry almost entirely to the Pentagon,
and refuses to concede that DoD subsidies had any positive effects on
high-tech industries. He also used to claim that the U.S. and USSR were
indistinguishably state capitalist economies, run by their military
establishments. He seems not to have more than a passing familiarity with
NSC-68 - unlike Chomsky, of course.
