Louis: Forgetta about it. This conference is Marxism 2 incarnate. The
working-class will be discussed in terms of its "problematic". Maria, an
old friend of mine, who is a pro-Sandinista nurse and as no-nonsense as
me, went to one of these conferences some years back. She told me that she
didn't understand a word. "Rethinking Marxism" is the journal of Richard
Wolff and Stephen Resnick, a couple of Althusserian professors in
Massachussets. There are occasionally good articles (one in the next issue
will be by David Harvey on globalization), but most of it is the sort of
thicket of academic jargon that plagues Social Text. I might submit an
article one of these days making the case that the transition to personal
computers from mainframes vindicates Bhaksar's theory of the fourth
dialectic.
