Beautiful Thing

"Beautiful Thing" is an excellent film about to young gay men on the notorious
Thamesmead estate in London. It's funny, dramatically tense, and has lots of
sharp social observation.

Normally "gay" films drive me bonkers with irritation - aristocratic English
men being arty and refined, or equally irritating middle class cafe dwellers
still being arty + refined. ( The only exception was My Beautiful Laundrette,
which hardly counts as a "gay" film ). I normally sit through them thinking
"if this was a straight film everyone would have walked out by now".

If you see it, the people in the scene at the end are not extras - they
were just local people watching the filming.
