It is helpful to those of us who have to skim for the forseeable future to
put in such details.
BTW I think the sentiments Louis expresses are generally and absolutely
correct, but thinking through their practical application in whatever
concrete situation we find oursleves in, is far from easy.
My own personal and pathetic solution is to say that I am trying to boost a
broad left culture here in Brisbane. But I have also been involved in heated
polemics with the local Green Party because they brought down the State
Labor govt.
I have as well grave reservations about the new party initiatives coming
>from what remains of the CPA Sydney branch. Their plan is to cobble
together "progressive" elements such as the Greens, The Women's Party and
the Australian Democrats (quasi-leftish liberals). this is based on the NEw
Zealand Alliance party model. But the latest polls show that this is not
even working in New Zealand.
We need to reconstruct the Communist Party of Australia. But this is a vast
task and the remaining elements for the old CPA are more of an obstacle than
a help. At present they have either totally entered the Labor Party (The
Melbourne Branch) or are dreaming fantasies of attracting the progressive
Middle class (The Sydney Branch).
The non-Communist Party Left are really no alternative. Australian
International Scoialists seem to be in their death throes. Here the British
ISO were more than useful undertakers.
The DSP are just as Louis describes the Trotskyist organisations.
So I think there is no way forward but to take it struggle by struggle.
The good news is that the left/liberterian paper that I am associated with,
Neighbourhood News, is going from strength to strength. It is financed by
ads from local business and believe it or not it made a profit last issue.
I cannot quite beleive that small business pays money to get my raves about
the evils of capitalism published, but they do. BTW if anyone would like to
be placed on the mailing list for the paper, I will post it out. It is all
very local of course but some may find it of interest.
regards
Gary
