16 Anniversary of the Armed Struggle

RED MAY

A red May like never before! Bombs against Shell-Mobil, the multinational
oil conglomerate, black out in Lima and in the provinces, attacks on
military barracks, battles with the regime mixed patrols
(military/police/paramilitaries), red flags all over Lima and its districts,
acts of sabotage, popular trials of government functionaries, elimination of
members of the pramilitary squads (Rondas) and officers of the armed forces,
propaganda actions for the revolution. These are some of the most notable
activities with which the Communist party of Peru (PCP) celebrated the 16
Anniversary of the initiation of the People's War.

It is evident that the actions of May are a landmark in a new course of
development of the process of armed struggle. It is clear evidence - as
senderologists and journalists enemies of the revolution, etc., themselves
admit - that the Maoist guerilla is now showing a new and more forceful
vitality since the capture of Chairman Gonzalo.

The Red Flag of the PCP

May 1. La Molina (Lima) A special detachment of the Maoist guerillas was
charged with the task of placing a gigantic red flag with hammer and sickle
atop the highest hill of the Lima district of La Molina. The deep red flag
which shone against the clear blue sky was tied to a 10 meter pole allowing
it to be seen from a very long distance all round.

Around the flag pole a series of mine devices known as "cazabobos" were
placed in order to deter the regime's anti-insurgency special forces from
approaching the flag to take it down. A police officer and a trooper were
seriously injured when attempting to take down the PCP's flag.

Police Agent and Supporter of the "Peace Agreement" Executed

May 2. Villa El Salvador. A guerilla special force attack and executed an
individual who was engaged in close colaboration with the police in
distributing propaganda in favour of the bogus "peace agreement" which is
being publicised by the National Intelligence Service (SIN) since October
1993. Next to the executed person the rebels placed leaflets with slogans
hailing the working class and the peasants, proletarian internationalism and
Chairman Gonzalo.

The Peruvian press, following the regime's line, alleged that this execution
was a part of a violent "two line struggle within Shining Path", between
those in favour of peace and those against.

Propaganda Saluting International Worker's Day

May 3. Huachipa (Lima) Propaganda teams of the Communist Party of Peru
(PCP), carried out several hours of intense activity distributing leaflets
in the central zones of this town. The propaganda was addressed to the
International Day of the Proletariat and in Commemoration of the 16
Anniversary of the initiation of the armed struggle.
