Jorn:
Actually I don't think Adam is as ignorant as he claims :-)
Anyway, the Socialist Workers' Party (UK) has written quite
a lot about Cuba in the 70's and 80's - most of what I know of
are articles in International Socialism Journal (ISJ), which should
be available through good university libraries. (If not, you can
get it through the SWP (UK), ISO (US) or sister organizations in
a number of other countries.)
Here are a few of them:
Cuba
-----
Peter Binns + Mike Gonzales: Cuba, Castro and Socialism
- in ISJ 2:8 (Spring 1980) pp. 1-36.
(The article has also been produced as a pamphlet with the same name
and is still in print - as far as I know.
The article provoked an article from R Blackburn in no. 9 and
a reply in no. 10.
Peter Binns: Popular power in Cuba (ISJ 2:21) pp. 135-144
Mike Gonzales: Can Castro survive? (ISJ 2:56 - Autumn 1992)
On Nicaragua:
------------
Mike Gonzales: The Nicaraguan Revolution (ISJ 2:17 - Autumn 1982)
pp. 39-90
The article is included in a book:
Mike Gonzales: Revolution under siege (1985 - 87 pages)
The book was later extended and updated after the defeat in 1990:
Mike Gonzales: Nicaragua: What went wrong? (141 pages)
(so this last book is the one to look for on Nicaragua)
Related - and in a broader context:
----------------------------------
Peter Binns: Revolution and state capitalism in the third world
(ISJ 2:25)
Alex Callinicos: Permanent Revolution and the third world today
(ISJ 2:16)
Alex Callinicos: Imperialism, Capitalism and the Third World
Today (ISJ 2:35)
The IS Journal is a quarterly journal of socialist theory
published by the Socialist workers' Party (UK).
Cover price is now £3.00 / $ 7.00.
