Louis: This is an extremely important point. Adam makes agreement with
"state capitalism" the parameter within which revolutionary socialism must
fall. I disagree. We must not define ourselves in relationship to these
sorts of theoretical questions. Both positions--"state capitalism" and
"workers state"--are within the context of Marxism. They are both
legitimate expressions of Marxist analysis. I doubt if Adam will ever come
around to this point of view, but this more inclusive approach has more to
do with the way the Bolshevik Party was organized than our modern day
versions of "Leninism". This attempt to draw the lines around questions of
the class nature of the Soviet Union, etc. will bog us down hopelessly.
