I am pretty sure I can live without "Harvard indie rock" -- true, I haven't
heard it, but it hurts the fillings in my teeth just to type "Harvard indie
rock".
But I think Doug is right about "class composition." The people grinding
through the music industry system are from all classes. It's like sports,
it provides a way out of a dead end system for some youth. A real mixed
bag of influences.
