Tributary societies
I know Alex Callinicos describes both pre Capitalist Japan and Great
Zimbabwe as tributary societies, although doubtless he would still
stick to the classic analysis of Slavery + Feudalism for eg Greece,
Rome + Medieval Europe.
Can't really comment, myself.
